An Eye on the Penn State Administration

Common Cause of Pennsylvania: Open Records

The LION 90.7fm’s popular public affairs talk program Radio Free Penn State interviewed Barry Kaufman, Executive Director of Common Cause of Pennsylvania, back on February 19th on what his organization’s involvement with recent open records legislation was, as well as his thoughts on what is needed at Penn State University to make the institution more transparent and fiscally accountable.

I meant to post this a few weeks ago, but classwork coupled with Gavin Keirans’ recent successful campaign for the Penn State student body presidency ended up distracting me. I encourage you to make time to listen to this hour-long interview as soon as you can — it’s a unique look into what state-level non-profits are doing to help ensure greater accountability on public land-grant institutions like Penn State.

Discussion centers around Pennsylvania’s open record laws and their potential effects on Penn State University and other state universities. The Student Programming Association’s February ‘Rock the Vote‘ event is also discussed, as is the potential return of student legal advising.

Radio Free Penn State airs on The LION 90.7fm weekdays from 5-6pm, and is hosted by Penn State alumnus and State College resident Andy “the Annihilator” Nagypal. Panelists on the program are: Charles Marks, Tom Shakely and Gavin Keirans.
